A new world disorder? [Feb. 20th, 2009|09:58 am]
Black Thought
This is where it gets interesting. 20,000,000 Chinese people aren't going to just retreat into the countryside quietly and the Chinese government knows it. Hungry people get desperate and desperate people force change. Is there civil war and unrest in China's future? Heck, is there a war with China in our future? There's about 7X as many Chinese as Americans. Could we even win a war against them?

I was hopeful that if there was going to be some good to come out of this recession, it would mean a serious increase in the number of startups. Sadly, that's not the case. What struck me as interesting was that "inability to get affordable health insurance" was high on the list for why people couldn't venture out on their own. Big companies are the only ones that can even begin to afford healthcare for their employees.

I always thought it would be cool to own a bank. As a US Taxpayer, I might get my chance. Let's face it, the US Government doesn't do much right. We won't even talk about profitably. Heck, the post office and Amtrack are continual money-losers. If Uncle Sam gets into the banking business, it's a wrap. Can you imagine having to be current on your taxes and your student loan before you could qualify for a car loan?

Sorry to bring basic English issues here... [Jun. 20th, 2008|12:21 am]
Black Thought

Is this community still active?

So, my transfer credit didn't come through in time, so I'm stuck in a basic English class. I have to write an Expository Essay.

I've constructed this thesis statement for the essay:

"While it may not have accomplished the task of making education more accessible, In 1985 Kenya switched from a British-based system to one that was more structurally aligned with the United States in order to more closely fit their country's needs."

I have access to a lot of information at my place of employment regarding the actual structure of the educational system of Kenya. So, I can describe what the 8-4-4 system involves, when they switched to it, what was involved with the British-based system, etc.

However I can't find any resources on how the citizens were impacted by the change. Based on what we receive where I work, I'm assuming that switching to the 8-4-4 system did not make getting an education that much more accessible to the citizens of Kenya. However, I am unable to find any resources to prove or disprove this theory.

Again, I'm sorry to bring such a basic matter here. However, the feedback I'm receiving regarding this is miminal.

Thanks in advance.

One thing you learn growing up in the city is how to read the environment. You can take a quick view of a situation and quickly determine who is friend or foe. Like a snake, you can take a quick whiff of the air and smell tension. To this day, I can look at a group of folks and tell you if there's about to be some trouble. Whenever I sit in a public place, I can tell you exactly where the exit doors are and who might not look quite right. My wife grew up in the burbs. She thinks I'm nuts.

Anyway, this morning I'm reading some of the national press coverage of last night's primary results in Pennsylvania, and I'm getting a feeling. It's the same feeling I'd get if I pulled up to an ATM and saw a guy looking as though he was having car trouble: he MIGHT genuinely be having car trouble, but I'm not about to risk it to find out, better find another ATM. So here we are with Obama's lead in delegates and pledged delegates and all anybody can go on about is how Hillary can pull this thing off. Strange. That's when I saw it:

"Are you a student of history," said Pennsylvania State Rep. Richard T. Grucela, who represents the 137th state assembly district, when asked how Clinton could win the nomination when Obama is now leading by 139 delegates before Tuesday's Primary. "If they are deadlocked on the first ballot, the delegates will be released from their pledges on later votes."

I smell the makings of a robbery. It feels like the guy on the train offering a friendly game of 3 card monte.

Michael Baisden and The Mystification of the Negro [Jan. 16th, 2008|03:14 pm]
Black Thought

As Angolan Liberation writer Frantz Fanon teaches in the Wretched of the Earth; Black folk are easily mystified.

One of the definitions of mystified as give by WordNet® 3.0 is: the activity of obscuring people's understanding, leaving them baffled or bewildered

Wretched of The Earth by Frantz Fanon

Socio-cultural mystification:

Mystification is the process of masking or covering up central aspects of society or of social relationships. Conflict or critical theorists are interested in the ways in which forms of social domination based on sex, class or colonialism are camouflaged so that these social structures, and the state which assists in their reproduction, are seen as legitimate.

Mystification allows for domination that is not based on evident coercion or force, but is maintained by a wide variety of social institutions and cultural values.

Preface to Frantz Fanon’s “Wretched of the Earth”

One of the great examples of mystification in history is how Hitler was able to mentally and emotionally seduce the whole of the German nation with emphatic claims, appeals and challenges to national loyalty, and the use of the “Big Lie”.

I did a post a while back on Michael Baisden's scurrilous and unscrupulous attack on renowned grassroots organizers Color of Change and it's founder and President James Rukur; who led the way in the Jena 6 fight long before Baiseden even knew there was a Jena.

After having laid out the evidence of the lie that Baisden had perpetrated against these folks I (and george cook of www.letstalkhonestly.com said he received many of the same) received comments from Negroes saying things such as the following: that I and the bloggosphere should stop "attacking" Baisden (that's right, correcting a lie is an attack), and that I should just cut the brotha some slack just because he's not perfect. As if it requires perfection to not lie on somebody.

Why am I using the word Negro instead of Black; because this is Negroe thinking, i.e. thought that is the result of the MisEdcuation that Carter G. Woodson so eloquently and aptly wrote of 7 decades ago. Its thinking that results from bamboozling the Black man, and turning him into a Negro. A Negro in this lexicon being a Black person who has accepted a white supremist paradigmatic way of thinking, fed to him for the purpose of creating a Black person who will operate in a way that benefits the white power class.

It's only a diminished thought process that has caused Black people to routinely fall in love with anybody who presents any pretense of being down with us, no matter what their actions show.

It’s not that other groups don’t get mystified; its that Blacks as a group become mystified so easily and so often; and almost without fail this happens repeatedly. So now even if he’s proven to be a lying, cheating, hustling, charlatan, slanderer; we don’t care, because he’s our lying, cheating, hustling, charlatan, slanderer. And because he did one good thing, it automatically absolves him of all bad things he may do; serving as an eternal blank check to do anything detrimental he wants, and we’ll stand beside him as long as he feeds us what we want to hear - the nice and easy.

The mystification though does wear off if one we loves challenges us as opposed to constantly feeding our ego and sense of victim-hood; as can be seen in the case of Bill Cosby. And I don't use the terminology victim-hood lightly, as to say that blacks have not been clearly targeted for victimization; but some have the notion that we have no control over our own destiny or can make no changes for ourselves, and that our fate lies soley in the hands of the white man saving us.

Bill Cosby

Cosby being one of the more socially and culturally active artist in the entertainment world, post civil rights era; a man who supported Black colleges relentlessly and worked on to uplift his people through imploring (and funding) education and by working in his field of work to help them develop better images of themselves; is now a sellout for basically saying we can do better. Never mind that his urging is substantively no different than the chiding of the Black community by the likes of Marcus Garvey and Malcolm X against the moral degradation in the Black community, and for our need to rid ourselves of so much vice as part of the struggle; and of our need of self-reliance.

In one of his seminal speeches, The Bullet or The Ballot, Malcolm X says the following:

now to me, this just seems like it could and would open up a hugh can-o-worms

"LOS ANGELES - Civil rights advocates criticized plans by the Los Angeles Police Department to map the city's Muslim communities, calling it racial profiling.

The LAPD's counterterrorism bureau plans to identify Muslim enclaves in order to determine which might be likely to become isolated and susceptible to "violent, ideologically based extremism," said Deputy Chief Michael P. Downing on Thursday."

Bill Clinton on the state of the U.S. economy and the Republican party -- past, present and future. [Oct. 2nd, 2007|08:57 am]
Black Thought
The older I get, the smarter Bill Clinton becomes and that's no easy accomplishment considering that in a lot of ways, I already thought the guy was a genius.

"My argument back is that there's a limit to how long you can grow the economy on real estate and consumption fueled by second mortgages and maxed-out credit cards."

I know I'm late to the Koolaid party, but I'm actually starting to think that he and Hillary can pull off a return to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Justin Barker, The True Victim in the Jena 6 Case [Sep. 28th, 2007|12:01 am]
Black Thought

More on Jena 6 @ BlackPerspective.net

This is the line we keep getting from the ‘status quo of racism’ defenders.

Sure, he’s the purist, most innocent kid that ever lived. He’s such a good kid he got expelled from school 5 months after the fight for brining a gun to school. Now he’s a high school dropout as I understand it.

Their should be some recompense for the butt kicking that was delivered to Mr. Barker, but some recompense does not = anything goes. The charges are way overblown! This is the issue here. The fact that the Jena 6 had to be disciplined is hardly in dispute by anyone. That doesn’t mean any discipline is okay. If somebody steals a piece of candy from the store, that doesn’t make chopping off their hand justified. If someone steals a car, they should be prosecuted, but it doesn’t mean they deserve 50 years in prison. The time should fit the crime. It is also a crime to try to kill and ant with a sledgehammer, metaphorically speaking.

Further, ignoring all the context of the incident, and accepting one sided stories that don’t make sense and don’t fit the facts, is egregious. Reed Walters has presented to date, NO evidence of a conspiracy versus a spontaneous reaction to a verbal racial assault; that was in continuation of at least months of racial intimidation. Such context changes everything. If he has no evidence of conspiracy, why did he charge it in the first place; save he was out to get those kids to put the blacks in their place?

Justin Barker is a punk, a thug, and a race baiter. He instigated and attempted to racially intimidate, and then wants to act as if he had no role in anything.

How can one accept the notion, that Justin Barker neither said nor did a thing to provoke the attack; particularly in contradiction to the black students who say he was with at least one of the noose hangers at the time, taunting with racial slurs the black student who had been beaten by whites at a party.

Most Whites, Including "Progressive" Bloggers, Don’t Think Jena Six Charges Are Wrong [Sep. 27th, 2007|09:41 am]
Black Thought

More on Jena 6 @ BlackPerspective.net

Support is coming in from all over for the Jena 6, except from white, so-called “progressive” bloggers.

They just make excuse after excuse (read comments to both post), and even claim the charges against the Jena 6 are valid. They even have the gall to say they didn’t blog on it because they couldn’t find information about it. That’s so fucking funny. I guess us Black folks have a special internet connection that leads us to different web pages than white bloggers have access to. That damn digital divided! We need more funding to support white blogger net accessibility.

I know for a fact that they are a lie, and you do too. If they wanted to find information, it was in the exact same places you and I found it. As a matter of fact I posted white reporter Amy Goodman’s article on my blog, over and over again; and my blog continually comes up at the top of net searches for "Michael Bell" and "The Jena 6" - I have the blog stats to prove it. I also then started posting Mary Mitchell’s stuff at the Chicago Sun Times, and she blogged on it regularly. Further, I posted many other resources over and over again, such as the Free The Jena 6 page . I was far from the only one.

This goes back to the point that I keep telling Black people. White folks are not going to love you no matter how much you beg them. In one comment, a white person said it was our job to make them relate, and to convince them they should be outraged. Do you here that? It’s not outrageous to them to see Black people treated poorly. They're easily outraged over dogs, but apparently we don't qualify. We are not people for who injustisce against should upset them.

Same commenter notifies us that we dare not “lecture”; clearly, we are to beg them to think that human beings with darker skin should be treated like human beings. They don’t already think that on their own, and it’s up to us to be Magical Negroes that can take them to that special place where they will, by their grace, impart upon us sympathy and compassion that we don’t deserve.

Your liberal white friends in the bloggosphere think those niggers should go to jail too - for a school yard fight that happens every day, and was provoked. Not suspended as is what happened when I witness a group of black kids stomp another black kid when I was in high school over something that's way less a provocation than racial taunting and intimidation; but that their black asses should be locked down. Not even for misdemeanor assault, but for years! They only have problems with it when it was going to be 80 to 100 years, then it’s excessive; but 15 years, ahh, that’s just fine.

Whites willing to call out injustice

No doubt there are some white persons out here willing to call out injustice. A few rode down to Jena with the group of 500 that we took from Nashville, and donated some money. Also, the Cambridge Massachusetts City Council, who though I didn’t look, feel safe in assuming is by far white, passed a resolution in support of the young men. And for one, blogger Cooper, has posted about it regularly for at least the last month. For another, Tom at automatic preferences helped put together the first Jena 6 petition, and is even challenging other whites to look at the situation from a standpoint of if they were in black folks shoes. Somehow these white folks found some facts.

Yet, even with these few; if liberals are so unconcerned about racial injustice, dismissive of Black people’s perspective, and have such white privilege blinders on, and most white people are conservative; how do you figure we are into anything less than a fight for our lives in this country, across the board of various issues? The umbrella issues being simply equality and equal protection under the law.

Know what you’re up against Black folks. Stop walking around in your rose-colored eyeglass delusion.
